The Foshay Tower was the first skyscraper built in the state of Minnesota and remained the tallest building in Minneapolis from 1929-1971. The Foshay Tower is significant to Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota not only as a unique example of architectural design and engineering, but as a prominent reminder of the taste and expression of "conspicuous consumption" which was felt throughout the United States during the economic boom years of the 1920s.

Field Trip Information

The Foshay Museum and Observation deck welcomes Schools and Community groups for fun and educational field trips. The Museum focuses primarily on the history of the Foshay Tower and it's founder Wilbur Foshay. The observation deck wraps around the entire building and offers a 360 degree view of the city and surrounding areas, up to thirty miles on a clear day. The Museum keeps a docent on staff who can answer questions and give short presentations.

Normal group rates apply to Field Trips, however we can offer discounts to schools whose free and reduced lunch programs exceed 50% of the student body. Please call ahead of time for special pricing.

Things to keep in mind when planning your Field Trip:

We need at least one adult for every ten students that attend the Museum.

We can comfortably accommodate groups up to 40 people at a time.

We only have one elevator servicing the museum, groups on a tight time table should factor in about four minutes for every 15 people to get up and down the elevators.

We appreciate appointments ahead of time but we can generally accommodate groups on short notice.
